Loneliness and social isolation have been proven in studies to have significant detrimental impacts on health, mental health, and mortality, particularly in older persons. Loneliness and social isolation are rarely explored or treated in health and mental health care settings. They are, nevertheless, among the most modifiable causes of mortality and morbidity. It is essential to be solution-oriented, and one beneficial solution to loneliness is simply pet therapy.
